Fernando Alonso: 'Plenty to race for'

Fernando Alonso believes that there is still plenty to race for despite Sebastian Vettel securing the world title earlier today.

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has insisted that there is still plenty to race for despite Sebastian Vettel securing the world title with four races remaining.

Alonso finished one place ahead of Vettel in second during this morning's Japanese Grand Prix, while both trailed winner Jenson Button.

However, both Alonso and Button can claim the runners-up spot in the Championship and the Spaniard has claimed that he is still motivated for the challenge.

"We [still] have a lot of motivation. Why not fight for victory in one of the remaining races?," said the 30-year-old.

"I think it is a good thing for the team after difficult races where we were not so competitive that we came back to a good level here, and this podium means a lot for the team.

"Second place in the championship? It's nice to be second, better than fourth or fifth, but I would prefer a race win and to finish fifth in the championship than finish in second and not win one of the remaining races."

Next week the drivers move on to Korea for race number 15.
