McLaren's Jenson Button has insisted that he will "fight all the way" from eighth place on the grid in Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

Button was third quickest in Saturday's qualifying session, but a gearbox change after the Singapore Grand Prix has resulted in the 2009 world champion taking a five-place grid penalty.

However, Button has insisted that he was pleased with the performance of the car.

"It hurts a little bit having the grid penalty, but today was good. I was happy with both of my laps in Q3," he said.

"We aren't quick enough and it's such a nice place to fight for a win as well, but never say never.

"There are always possibilities and and we'll fight all the way tomorrow."

Button is currently sixth in the Formula 1 drivers standings.
