Lewis Hamilton said he gave all he good after starting from the back of the grid in the Spanish Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton is pleased with his performance after finishing eighth from starting 24th on the grid in the Spanish Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver had initially claimed pole position in qualifying in Barcelona before being stripped of the achievement after it was found that his car was under-weight.

Hamilton was forced to start the race from the back of the grid after his team ordered him to stop his car on the track during the lap after his fastest qualifying time. The 27-year-old admits that he gave all he could.

"I'm quite happy with that, the team did a great job, and it was the best I could do," said Hamilton.

"It was an incredibly tough challenge. They said I was going to be the only one to do a two-stop strategy. I didn't know where I was when I was making my way through at the beginning.

"It's always fun to challenge and overtake people, and it was a huge challenge coming from the back. I didn't know what position I could finish in for one second, but I never gave up, right until the line. Today was damage limitation, and to get a couple of points from where I was, I really can't complain."

Pastor Maldonado went on to win the race from pole position.
