Lewis Hamilton ended his first day of testing the new Mercedes W04 car in Jerez by crashing it into a tyre wall.
The 28-year-old suffered the blow on the second day of pre-season testing after just 15 laps by sliding into the barriers at the hairpin on the back straight and plummeting into the wall.
The 2008 world champion, who clocked the second quickest time of the day with 1.19.59s, walked away from the incident and was unhurt while cranes arrived on the scene to remove the damaged vehicle.
Mercedes encountered problems yesterday through Nico Rosberg, whose car caught fire after 11 laps.
