Lewis Hamilton has said that the track for the Russian Grand Prix lacks character.
Carlos Sainz was involved in a heavy crash in practice in Sochi earlier today and Hamilton has criticised track designer Hermann Tilke.
"I like that there is a variety of circuits in F1, old and new, but I often wonder why we only have one designer," Hamilton told reporters.
"Sometimes I think when I retire I will start designing tracks myself and give Hermann Tilke some competition. I know what drivers like. Quite often the new generation of tracks don't grasp the true essence of F1. I know there are restrictions to do with safety but circuits often feel too calculated.
"Too many new tracks have too little character. There are exceptions like Austin but this one does not stand out so much."
The reigning world champion qualified in second behind teammate Nico Rosberg.
