Lewis Hamilton: "I could not be happier"

Lewis Hamilton says that he is delighted after a first-round crash cleared the way for him to win the Singapore Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he is delighted with his victory today after what proved to be a dramatic race in Singapore.

The Mercedes man opened up a 28-point lead at the top of the driver rankings courtesy of the victory, which came after nearest rival Sebastian Vettel was forced out in the first lap following a collision with Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen.

Vettel's early exit allowed Hamilton - starting fifth on the grid - to capitalise and take top spot on the podium, with Daniel Ricciardo finishing second and Valtteri Bottas coming in third.

"I want to congratulate my team, they did a fantastic job," he told Sky Sports News. "We struggled yesterday [in qualifying] and we had no idea what would happen today. We were fortunate with what happened with the Ferraris at the beginning but I could not be happier.

"I capitalised on the incident. Who would know what would happen? Daniel put up a really good fight today. I hoped I would get to race Sebastian at the beginning. Of course it is better the way it is."

Next up in the calendar is the Malaysian Grand Prix in a fortnight.
