The discontinuation of the French GP at Paul Ricard in 2022 has escalated into a grave crisis, with prosecutors now initiating an inquiry into "embezzlement of public funds."
Le Monde reports that the entity previously overseeing the Formula 1 event, the public interest group GPF-le Castellet, has been forced into mandatory liquidation facing debts of EUR 32 million.
"The amounts are exorbitant," stated politician Christelle D'Intorni to the newspaper, highlighting several dubious expenditures to undisclosed beneficiaries.
"What is shocking is that the travel costs go up and up, and we find luxury expenses for colossal sums," she further remarked.
