Mark Webber has said that Formula 1 is not the sport that it once was and that it has "never been weaker".
Webber, who raced for Minardi, Jaguar, Williams and Red Bull over a 12-year career behind the wheel, also suggested that the sport needs to become "more exciting" to foster competitive championships.
He told BBC Radio 5 live: "We've just got to get the cars more exciting again for the drivers.
"The depth has never been weaker, if you go from the top 10 back. This is not good. We need more depth.
"We need the cars to be more exciting, faster, noisier. Just put them on a level where they are not close to other categories. Now they are."
Webber, 39, is in his second season with Porsche competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
