Mosley: ‘Bahrain GP won’t happen’

Max Mosley says that the Bahrain Grand Prix can’t take place unless all teams agree on a date.

Max Mosley has remarked that the reinstated Bahrain Grand Prix is unlikely to happen since all teams must agree to the resultant change in calendar.

The FIA World Motor Sport Council controversially decided to bring back the competition and scheduled it for October 30, the date on which the Indian Grand Prix was meant to take place. This has now been pushed back to December.

Former president Mosley has now pointed out that the Indian date cannot be moved without the “unanimous agreement [of] all competitors already entered” as stated in the International Sporting Code.

“I don’t think there is the slightest chance the grand prix will actually happen,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today. “The council is organising the event but the teams that participate, if there is going to be a change - say for example moving the Indian event - then there has to be unanimous agreement.”

“It’s absolutely part of the rules, it’s Article 66 of the International Sporting Code. So until the written agreement of the teams is forthcoming, you can’t actually change the date, it can’t be done.”

Aside from this issue, Mosley also criticised the reinstated competition due to the totalitarian Bahraini state. “The grand prix would be being used by the regime in order to further its aims, so it almost becomes an instrument of the regime in oppressing the people who are being badly treated.”
