Mark Webber has hit back at critics claiming that his historic win at Monaco was down to an illegal car specification which has since been banned.

Although an official protest against the controversial 'holes' fashioned into the floor of Webber's Red Bull just ahead of its rear tyres was not forthcoming following Webber's victory in Monte Carlo, motorsport's governing body subsequently issued a clarification that such a design is now illegal.

Webber met claims that his win was undeserved with a mixture of anger and disappointment.

He told Sky Sports News: "In relation to [the allegation of winning with an illegal car], I've been called lots of things, and I'm happy to take a lot of criticism for my driving and lots stuff, but I won't accept criticism in that respect.

"It pi**es me off, to be honest, because the car has passed every single technical check and all of the teams that were against the car in Monaco did not make a protest.

"The rule now is different. We had a car that was legal for the first part of the season and now that the rule has been changed we will start again."

Webber's win in Monaco meant this is the first time in Formula 1 history that there has been six different winners in the opening six races of the season.

Australian Webber will be hoping to pile the pressure on championship leader Fernando Alonso by securing back to back wins at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.
