World champion Sebastian Vettel has been forced to withdraw from the European Grand Prix in Valencia this afternoon.
The Red Bull driver suffered a so far unknown mechanical problem with his car while leading the race during the 34th lap.
Vettel's retirement allowed Fernando Alonso to gain the lead, with Great Britain's Lewis Hamilton moving into second.
