Red Bull's Max Verstappen produces a strong final qualifying lap to edge out rival Lewis Hamilton for pole position in Sunday's United States Grand Prix.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen has edged out Lewis Hamilton for pole position ahead of Sunday's United States Grand Prix.

The pair are currently separated by just six points in the Drivers' Standings, and they each produced storming final laps in Q3 to secure starts on the front row.

Mercedes driver Hamilton posted his time first, replacing Sergio Perez at the top of the leaderboard, and a few drops of rain could have played into his favour as Verstappen completed the final third of his lap.

However, the Dutchman was still able to finish a fifth of a second ahead of the defending champion, giving himself an edge ahead of tomorrow's race.

While Perez missed out on making it an all-Red Bull front row, the Mexican will be content with ending qualifying comfortably faster than fourth-quickest Valtteri Bottas.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jnr were fifth and sixth fastest in the Ferrari, while Great Britain's Lando Norris was eighth in his McLaren. body check tags ::
