Marseille midfielder Joey Barton has described supporters of the American Ryder Cup team as "intolerable".
Fans of the USA squad are traditionally vocal in the support of their golfers whenever they meet their European counterparts.
However, Barton, who is on loan in France from Queens Park Rangers, has taken exception to some members of the crowd.
"American golf fanatics are such an intolerable collection of the human form," he wrote on Twitter. "For future reference american f*ckwits, its highly improbable that someone teeing off a par 5 is gonna put it in 'the hole'.
"Really hope they f*cking lose this. To watch the stars and stripes facepaint tearfully, running down their halfwitted faces would please me."
The 30-year-old then went on to criticise players and fans alike for praying on the greens at the Medinah Country Club.
"Know what else really f*cking annoyed me. Them praying on the green yesterday," he added. "IF there is a god and thats a big IF, why the f*ck would he give a sh*t about whether the americans wins a Ryder cup. I mean surely he has slightly more important matters. #famine #war."
