Danny Willett crowned Masters champion

England's Danny Willett produces a bogey-free round to win the 80th Masters ahead of defending champion Jordan Spieth.

Danny Willett became just the second Englishman in history to win The Masters in an incident-packed final round at Augusta.

Starting the day on level-par, the majority of bookmakers priced Sheffield-born Willett at 25-1 to clinch the famous green jacket.

However, he defied those odds with a bogey-free round, coupled with a dramatic collapse from overnight leader and defending champion Jordan Spieth, to become the first player from his country to win the tournament since Nick Faldo in 1996.

A bogey-double bogey finish on Saturday saw Spieth's advantage cut to just one shot, but he appeared to be on course for a second victory in a row with a run of birdies on six, seven, eight and nine.

Yet, the 22-year-old American provided the chasing pack with a ray of hope as he then bogied 10 and 11, but worse was still to come at 12.

Spieth found the water twice and then the bunker, before eventually sinking his ball in a four-over seven to leave him on one-under.

All the while, Willett went about his business in positive fashion, positing birdies at six, eight, 13, 14 and 16 to move himself clear at the top of the leaderboard on five-under.

Spieth provided a hint that a late recovery was on the cards thanks to birdies at 13 and 15, but his challenge was eventually ended by a bogey at the 17th.

It secured the victory for Willett - a first for a European at Augusta since 1999 - and meant that Spieth finished tied for second along with Lee Westwood on two-under. Further back were Paul Casey, JB Holmes and Dustin Johnson, who shared fourth with a score of one-under.
