American Patrick Reed storms into the lead at the halfway stage of The Masters courtesy of a six-under round which saw him card nine birdies at Augusta.

Patrick Reed has stormed into the lead at the halfway stage of The Masters following a stunning round of six-under-par at Augusta today.

Reed - who missed the cut at The Masters last year - produced nine birdies to fly up the leaderboard in conditions which saw others struggle, giving him a two-shot advantage after round two as he goes in search of his first Major championship.

The American's round of 66 leaves him two shots clear of Australian Marc Leishman, who produced the shot of the day on his way to an eagle at the 15th, helping him card a round of 67 to sit seven-under overall.

Overnight leader Jordan Spieth began with a double-bogey which was a sign of things to come for the 2015 champion, who finished two-over for the day to drop down to joint third alongside Rory McIlroy.

Henrik Stenson sits third on five-under, while world number one Dustin Johnson was aided by an eagle on the second on his way up the leaderboard, leaving him 16th.

Tiger Woods made the cut on his return to Augusta, although his chances of winning a fifth green jacket look bleak after he was left on four-over-par.

The winners of the past two Masters tournaments did not make it through to round three, though, as Danny Willett and Sergio Garcia missed the cut - the latter of whom finished on 15-over.
