Matthew Fitzpatrick has claimed that he will be ambitious on the European Tour this season as he looks to compete with the sport's elite players on a weekly basis.

The 20-year-old secured his card at the final stage of Qualifying School last month, and he is eager to make the most of his opportunity ahead of the Alfred Dunhill Championship this week.

"For me it has to be the case that while I want to keep my card for next year, it is not what I should be aiming for," Fitzpatrick told reporters. "You don't want to think about just keeping your card, as it then becomes more like protecting a lead, playing safe, so you just want to go for it and play well.

"The Challenge Tour has been a great experience. In terms of where I want to get to, it has been the start of the learning curve. Playing on my European Tour invites this season, I realised that I want to be doing that every week."

Fitzpatrick had recorded four top-10 finishes on the Challenge Tour before his success at Q-School.
