Scott Jamieson came within a whisker of scoring the first ever score of 59 in the third round of the Portugal Masters this afternoon.
The Scot carded 11 birdies over the first 17 holes before firing long with his approach to the 18th, but then almost holed his chip from off the green for a memorable three.
Jamieson, 29, only made the halfway cut at Oceanico Victoria Golf Course by one shot but now holds the clubhouse lead of 14-under par, with second-round leaders David Lynn, Paul Waring and Hennie Otto starting their third rounds on 12-under.
Jamieson's round of 60 is the 18th in European Tour history and the second this year after Peter Uihlein's 12-under round at Kingsbarns during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
