Martin Kaymer: Pressure affected my form

Martin Kaymer admits that the pressure of being only the second German to be ranked number one in the world has affected his form.

Former world number one Martin Kaymer has admitted that the pressure of topping the world rankings affected his form.

The German rose to the top spot after winning the Abu Dhabi Championship in February but has failed to win a title since.

"To become number one in the world, if you are an American player, an English player, Spanish, it's probably a little easier than being a German," said Kaymer.

"We only had Bernhard Langer, who was one of the best players in the world. He was the first number one in the world, so when I became number one it became big in Germany again.

"There were a lot of requests from people, 'do this, do that'. I got invited to a lot of events - some you want to do, some you don't. It's all a bit overwhelming."

Kaymer, the world number six, won the USPGA Championship and the Race To Dubai in 2010 but has failed to hit the same heights this season.

The 26-year-old remodelled his swing in a bid to improve his record at the US Masters in Augusta earlier this year, although he still missed the cut.
