Rory McIlroy has revealed that he is comfortable with claiming he is the best golfer in the world.
The Northern Irishman currently tops the world rankings and admits that he must believe he can beat any player if he is to remain ahead of Luke Donald in the standings.
When asked if he considers himself to be the best player in the world, McIlroy replied: "Yeah, I think that you have to believe that you're better than anyone else.
"On my day I believe I can beat anyone in the world. It's just a matter of going out there and showing everyone else what I believe.
"It's hard to walk around saying 'I'm the best' or whatever, but you just have to believe in it and be quietly confident."
The 23-year-old will be hoping to solidify his place at the top of the world rankings with a win in the BMW Championship at Wentworth this week.
