World number one Rory McIlroy has been named the European Tour's Golfer of the Year.
The award has rounded off a positive 12 months for the 23-year-old, who won five tournaments across the world.
In October the Northern Irishman was part of the European squad that successfully defended the Ryder Cup at Medinah, despite the fact that they trailed 10-6 heading into the final day.
"It is a very special honour indeed," said McIlroy. "You only need to look down the list of players who have preceded me as the winner of this award to see precisely why. it is a who's who of golf and I'm delighted to now be a part of that in the history books."
McIlroy also topped money lists on both sides of the Atlantic.
