Scottish Open champion Phil Mickelson has said that he was angry at himself for nearly letting victory slip through his fingers at Castle Stuart.
The 43-year-old needed to make par at the par-five 18th hole for a one-shot victory over Branden Grace, but ended up making a six.
However, a birdie in the first playoff hole secured his first title on British soil since turning professional in 1992.
"This is really cool," Mickelson told reporters. "I have been coming here for some time and had some opportunities and I almost let it slip away today.
"To come out on top was terrific. I was so mad at myself for mentally losing my focus that I came out on that 18th pretty focused to make a four."
Mickelson travels to Muirfield next week looking to win his first Open Championship title.
