Justin Rose has withdrawn from this week's Honda Classic to rest an ongoing shoulder injury.

The US Open champion took a two-month break to recover from operation on tendonitis in his right arm and has thus only played two tournaments this year.

Both of those appearances have been over the past fortnight and with Rose planning to appear at March's WGC-Cadillac Championship, it has been decided that playing four weeks in a row would be too much too soon.

His manager Andrew Kipper of Excel Sports released a statement which read: "While continued rehabilitation continues to help the persistent tendinitis in Justin's right shoulder, scheduling four straight weeks of competition was aggressive to start the 2014 season.

"This was a difficult decision given the quality of the event and the great care Honda takes of the players.

"For Justin's long-term success, this is the proper decision and will allow him to resume his intended schedule for the coming months."

Rose had posted top-five finishes in his three previous visits to the Honda Classic at the PGA National in Florida.
