Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal has told Padraig Harrington that he needs to perform at the US PGA Championship if he is to have a chance of playing in the Ryder Cup.
Harrington is ranked 19th in the Ryder Cup standings and may have to rely on being given a wildcard by Olazabal, but the Spaniard has made it clear that Harrington will need to perform.
Olazabal said: "Padraig will have to do extraordinary well at the US PGA. I think his putting has let him down this year. He has three weeks left. It's going to be up to him."
However, Harrington responded: "I can't concentrate on something I have not got control over. There are too many variables. The positive is that I like this style of golf course."
Harrington could find himself up against Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia for a wildcard place.
