Rory McIlroy confident of USPGA glory

World number one Rory McIlroy is confident that he can retain his lead at the top of the leaderboard and win the US PGA Championship at Valhalla on Sunday.

Rory McIlroy believes that the US PGA Championship is his tournament to lose as the world number one closes in on back-to-back major wins.

The Northern Irishman shot a round of 67 on Saturday to ensure that he heads into the final day at Valhalla top of the leaderboard, one stroke clear of Austrian Bernd Wiesberger.

Victory for the 25-year-old - who won the Open Championship last month - would see him become the first golfer since Padraig Harrington in 2008 to claim successive major titles.

"It's not the biggest lead I've ever had but I am still in control of this tournament and it's still a good position to be in," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"I just knew I needed to make a couple [of birdies] coming down the back nine to keep the lead or at least be tied. The two birdies on 15 and 16 were huge.

"It's where I want to be, it's the best place to be in a tournament. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

Rickie Fowler sits third in the leaderboard on 11-under par, one stroke ahead of Phil Mickleson and Jason Day.
