The final foursome on day two of the Ryder Cup is just in Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker's favour after nine holes against the Northern Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell.
The Americans made a birdie on the first to take an early lead before both pairs made par on two, three and four, with McIlroy and McDowell coming close to bringing the match back level.
Furyk and Snedeker manufactured another birdie at the the fifth to move 2 up before McIlroy's short putt for a birdie four at the seventh lipped out.
The lead was cut to 1 up on the next, however, as Furyk duffed a chip from off the green to mean that par was good enough for the Northern Irishman.
McIlroy outdid Snedeker with the approach to the ninth but McDowell couldn't sink the birdie so America remained 1 up going into the back nine.
