Europe Ryder Cup hero Martin Kaymer admits that he wanted the "ultimate thrill" of making the putt to win the Ryder Cup.

Martin Kaymer has revealed that he told his caddie that he wanted "the ultimate thrill" of holing the putt that ensured that Europe retained the Ryder Cup.

Kaymer completed a remarkable comeback for Europe by making a putt from six feet to defeat Steve Stricker and retain the trophy for Europe, and he has revealed that he told Craig Connolly about craving an opportunity to make the important putt.

The 27-year-old said: "Even though it was more difficult in the end, it was an even better feeling. Of course, it was a lot of pressure, but I see it more like a gift what happened.

"It's very, very rare that you are in a position as a golf player to make such an important putt.

"There will never, ever, be a more important putt in my life. Even if I have a chance in two years time, I've done it before already."

The point that Kaymer won against Stricker was the only point he earned during the competition.
