Sergio Garcia and Michael Thompson share the top spot in the Honda Classic leaderboard after carding five-under-par 65s in the first round in Palm Beach, Florida.
Garcia impressed on the course by shooting an eagle on the second hole and then birdied the third before dropping a shot on the sixth.
A further three birdies pushed the Spaniard into the lead, alongside Thompson, who shot one eagle, five birdies and two bogeys.
The pair have a one-shot lead over William McGirt and Rickie Fowler, who carded four-under 66s, while five players in the field sit two shots off the pace.
Rory McIlroy had a difficult round as he suffered a double bogey on the 14th hole and also dropped a shot on four other holes over the course of the day.
The Northern Irishman carded a two-over-par 72.
