Jordan Spieth produced a strong round with a four-under-par 66 to pull himself into contention on day two of the Dean & Deluca invitational.
After carding a first-round score of three-under 67, the world number two pushed on to finish Friday's session sitting behind only Bryce Molder, Anirban Lahiri and Webb Simpson at the Colonial Country Club.
Thunderstorms pushed the start of play back by more than five hours, but Spieth did not let the delay faze him as a birdie on the 11th and 13th holes put him back in contention.
Spieth had earlier taken the outright lead when a fine second shot took him within 15 feet of the pin on hole five, with the resultant birdie putt moving him to the summit.
Four pars on the final four holes allowed Lahiri, Simpson and day three leader Molder to pass him by, however, ahead of the resumption of play on Saturday afternoon.
