Webb Simpson has admitted that he feels 'honoured' to have been selected as part of Team USA's Ryder Cup contingent by captain Tom Watson.

The 40th instalment of the showpiece event gets underway at Gleneagles tomorrow morning, where Simpson looks certain to partner Bubba Watson.

"The coolest part about being paired with Bubba is our games are so different," the 29-year-old told reporters. "One of my strengths is short-iron play and he gives me a lot more opportunities than I give myself. He gets so excited, I'm always telling him to be quiet."

Simpson, who has featured in one previous Ryder Cup, also recalled the moment when Watson selected him as part of his captain's pick.

"He called me at 4.30 in the morning and he knew I wasn't sleeping," he added. "I think it's a good pressure and I definitely feel like I want to play my part. It's an honour to be picked by a eight-time Major champion."
