Great Britain win their first individual artistic gymnastics medal of the 2022 European Championships as Ondine Achampong takes silver on the beam.

Great Britain's Ondine Achampong produced a near-flawless routine to win the silver medal in the women's artistic gymnastics beam final at the 2022 European Championships in Munich.

The 18-year-old formed a part of the silver-medal winning quintet from the team final and upped her score from qualification to win silver on beam with a score of 13.400.

Achampong nailed her acrobatic series and just took a slight hop on her two-and-a-half twisting back somersault dismount, which saw her finish 0.066 behind gold medallist Emma Malewski of Germany.

France's Carolann Heduit also scored a total of 13.400, but a lower execution score meant that she settled for the bronze medal, while home favourite Pauline Schaefer-Betz only scored 13.200 to finish fifth.

Boos rang around the Munich arena when Schaefer-Betz's score was displayed, and Achampong's medal represented GB's first of the day after floor and uneven bars finals that were disrupted by injuries.

Jessica Gadirova finished fifth for GB on vault after the difficulty on her second skill was lowered from a straight to a pike, as Bulgaria's Valentina Georgieva and Italy's Asia D'Amato both needed medical attention.

Georgieva could not complete her two routines after suffering an apparent knee problem on her first vault, while D'Amato collapsed to the mat with an ankle injury after completing her second vault, but she still won the silver medal.

On the uneven bars, Georgia-Mae Fenton had to settle for sixth place, while Alice Kinsella paused during her routine and over-rotated her dismount to finish eighth. France's Lorette Charpy - who tore her anterior cruciate ligament in 2021 - also suffered an injury after her bronze-medal winning bars routine. body check tags ::
