Team GB artistic gymnast Georgina Hockenhull had to settle for a last-place finish in the balance beam final at the European Games on Saturday following a disappointing performance in Baku.
The 18-year-old suffered a costly slip at the start of her routine, condemning her to sixth position in the six-strong field.
Sports Mole spoke with the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist after the event to find out her thoughts.
Hi Georgina, what's your overall reaction to how you did out there?
"I'm a bit disappointed, obviously, because I fell, but I was so excited to get into the final."
You seemed to recover really well after falling off the beam at the start of your routine. What was going through your head at that point?
"I don't actually know! I was just really nervous, but because I fell I just had to control myself. I knew I could do the rest of the beam routine, so I just had to concentrate on that."
Has competing at the European Games been a positive experience for you?
"Yeah, it has definitely. It's such a big competition and I've gained so much experience doing it."
What about the competition today? How strong was the rest of the field?
"It was pretty strong. I watched most of them in the European Championships, so it's been amazing to compete alongside them."
What are you plans for the rest of the year? Is there much on the horizon for you?
"At the end of August we have our [World Championships] trials, so hopefully I'll be looking to do well there."
