Team Wales gymnast Francesca Jones describes flying her country's flag at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony as the proudest moment of her life.

Francesca Jones has described bearing the flag for Wales at yesterday's Commonwealth Games opening ceremony as the proudest moment of her life.

Jones, 23, was chosen to fly the flag at her third Commonwealth Games after winning a silver medal in Delhi four years ago.

When asked by Sports Mole how it felt to lead out the Welsh team at Celtic Park yesterday, Jones said: "I couldn't even describe it. It was an absolute honour.

"I don't know how to put it into words - just even being in that group of people, let alone at the front. It was the proudest moment of my life."

Today she won a second Commonwealth silver in the rhythmic gymnastics team final alongside debutantes Nikara Jenkins, 17, and Laura Halford, 18.

It is the first time that she has competed in a rhythmic Welsh team at the Commonwealth Games.

"I've never been around a team and the support and the morale is just incredible. I could never have asked for more," she added.

Jones's performance in the team event today saw her qualify for Friday's individual all-around final and all four apparatus finals on Saturday.
