Francesca Jones's father Colin exclusively tells Sports Mole of his "elation" after seeing his daughter win a first ever Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Francesca Jones signed off her rhythmic gymnastics career in style this afternoon, landing a first Commonwealth gold medal in her last ever event, and her father Colin has told Sports Mole of his elation and pride.

On the final day of rhythmic competition at Glasgow's Hydro, 23-year-old Jones won three straight silver medals in the hoop, ball and clubs before bringing the house down with gold in the ribbon.

Jones signs off her gymnastics career with a medal in every Glasgow event - five silvers and one gold - and moments after seeing his daughter triumph, teary father Colin exclusively told SM: "I'm elated, I've never felt such elation in all my life. It's brilliant."

When asked how it felt to hear the Welsh national anthem and see his daughter atop the podium, Colin added: "As a Welshman, it is the highlight. It was absolutely brilliant.

"As it was my daughter as well, it made it very very special."

Francesca, who was Wales's flag bearer at the opening ceremony this year, told reporters after her victory that her father was a huge inspiration and he said that the feeling was mutual.

"She is the most amazing daughter that anyone could ever have," he added.

Francesca's gold was also Wales's first of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and takes their total medal tally in Glasgow to 11.
