Team GB's Ashley McKenzie has progressed to the round of 16 in the men's -60kg judo event at the European Games in Baku with victory in his opening bout this morning.
The 25-year-old was involved in a closely-fought, tactical meeting with Italy's Carmine Maria di Loreto at the Heydar Aliyev Arena.
Neither player scored points during the contest, but McKenzie progresses on penalties, picking up just one shido to his opponent's two.
The Commonwealth Games champion will be in action again later this morning when he will face Jeroen Mooren of the Netherlands for a place in the quarter-finals.
