Team England women's lawn bowls skipper Sian Honnor has admitted that the strong start was important in the 21-11 opening-game win against Canada on Thursday morning.

England went 10-0 ahead after three ends, and from that point on Canada were unable to get back in the match, which led to a fairly comfortable win for them.

"We got off to a really good start, it was obviously daunting to start off on a televised rink but we blocked it out and we all played really well as a team," she said.

"It was a solid performance and because the format is only 15 ends in the fours it is vital to get off to a good start and after the first three ends we had that. It was just a case of keeping the momentum going after that and we saw the game out."

The men's team also won their opening match.
