Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Getafe and Leganes, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Getafe's search for their first La Liga victory of the 2024-25 campaign will continue on Sunday afternoon, when they welcome Leganes to Estadio Coliseum.

The home side are 18th in the table, boasting just three points from their first five matches of the new season, while Leganes are 15th, having collected five points from their opening six games.

Match preview

Getafe are in their eighth straight campaign in Spain's top flight, finishing eighth, fifth and eighth between 2018 and 2020, but they have been 15th three times and 12th once in their last four campaigns.

There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a tough start to the season for the capital outfit, who have only picked up three points from five matches to sit down in 18th position in the table.

Jose Bordalas's side opened their campaign with three straight draws against Athletic Bilbao, Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad, before losing their next two against Sevilla and Real Betis.

Getafe can certainly take positives from their start to the season despite their disappointing return in terms of points, but there will be pressure on them to pick up a strong result here ahead of a trip to Barcelona.

Leganes, meanwhile, are back at this level after winning the 2023-24 Segunda Division, securing a return to the top flight for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

El Lega have won one, drawn two and lost three of their six league games this season to collect five points, which has left them in 15th spot in the table ahead of the next set of fixtures.

Borja Jimenez's side opened their 2024-25 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Osasuna, before recording a 2-1 victory over Las Palmas in their second match of the season.

Leganes continued their unbeaten start with a goalless draw against Real Valladolid, but they have been beaten in their last three, going down to Mallorca, Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao without finding the back of the net.

The Madrid outfit have only scored three times in the league this season, and they will be taking on a Getafe outfit that have only shipped four goals in their opening five matches of the campaign.

Team News

Getafe will be without the services of two players through injury on Sunday, with Nabil Aberdin and Alvaro Rodriguez both unavailable for selection.

Borja Mayoral made his comeback from a long-term knee injury as a late substitute against Real Betis on Wednesday, and it is likely that his recovery will continue from the bench here.

As a result, there could once again be a spot in the final third of the field for Christantus Uche, but there might be a change in a wide area, with Carles Perez potentially being introduced.

As for Leganes, Naim Garcia and Yvan Neyou will miss the match through injury, but the visitors are otherwise in strong shape heading into their clash with Getafe.

Head coach Jimenez is expected to resist the temptation to shuffle his pack following the 2-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, with Miguel de la Fuente again set to feature alongside Sebastien Haller in attack.

Roberto Lopez is again in line for a spot in midfield on Sunday, while Sergio Gonzalez is set to continue in the middle of the promoted outfit's back four.

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Iglesias, Dakonam, Alderete, Rico; Perez, Arambarri, Milla, Sola; Uche, Yildirim

Leganes possible starting lineup:
Soriano; Rosier, Saenz, Gonzalez, Nastasic, Franquesa; Brasanac, Cisse, Lopez; De la Fuente, Haller

We say: Getafe 1-1 Leganes

Getafe have been the draw specialists in the early stages of the new La Liga campaign, while Leganes have picked up points in three of their six matches. Getafe will be the favourites on home soil, but we are expecting the points to be shared in Sunday's showdown.
