Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa has revealed that his father named him after Argentina legend Diego Maradona.

Costa, 25, who is expected to make his Spain debut against Italy on Wednesday evening, has also revealed that his love of football came from his family.

"In Brazil, every father dreams of their sons being footballers. My family loves football and my father named me Diego after Maradona," he told Canal+.

Costa started his professional career in Portugal with Braga, before moving to Spanish football with Atletico Madrid in 2007.
