Brazil football legend Pele is in a special care unit in the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo after seeking treatment for a reported urinary infection as his condition worsens.
The 74-year-old was hospitalised earlier this week for a medical evaluation just 10 days after undergoing surgery to remove kidney stones.
A statement from the hospital in Brazil said: "Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele) remains in hospital. To receive the best care he was transferred in order to be monitored in a special care unit."
The retired sportsman, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, won three World Cups with Brazil and is the nation's leading goalscorer with 77 goals in 92 games.
