Football's world governing body FIFA has started disciplinary proceedings against Mexico following claims of racism from their supporters in last Friday's World Cup victory over Cameroon.
The Fare network, which is monitoring behaviour of fans at the tournament, alerted FIFA with regards to the use of the word "puto" - meaning "male whore" - at the Group A encounter.
The organisation is also looking into alleged discrimination by fans from Brazil, Russia and Croatia over the past week, according to BBC Sport.
Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, has continuously promised to clamp down on racism in football over the past 12 months following various incidents.
