Antonino Pulvirenti, president of Serie B club Catania, has been arrested on suspicion of match-fixing during the 2014-15 season.
Pablo Cosentino, the 53-year-old's deputy, and former director of sport Daniele Delli Carri were also among the seven people arrested over the allegations.
A statement from Catania police claims that the people arrested have been accused of "committing fraud in sporting competition" and of "fixing Serie B games so as to allow Catania to avoid relegation".
Catania, relegated from Serie A in 2013-14, finished 15th in Italy's second tier last season, three points above the relegation playoff places.
