An official investigation from the police will reportedly take place in the aftermath of Patrick Ekeng's tragic death.
The Dinamo Bucharest midfielder passed away after collapsing on the field during his team's league match with Viitorul on Friday night.
The incident occurred just seven minutes after the 26-year-old had entered play and although still unconfirmed, it is understood that the Cameroon international suffered a cardiac arrest.
There have been reports of negligent medical treatment from Ekeng's Romanian club in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and according to Romania-based journalist Emanuel Rosu, a police investigation will take place to determine what occurred at the stadium.
Information released from the hospital revealed that cardiac massage had been performed, but questioned whether professional care was given on the pitch or in the ambulance.
It is understood that doctors attempted to resuscitate Ekeng for more than one hour at the Floreasca Emergency Hospital, but those attempts proved unsuccessful.
The former Cordoba midfielder is survived by his wife and child.
