Florida State Seminoles quarterback De'Andre Johnson has apologised after allegedly hitting a woman during a bar fight.
The 19-year-old was suspended indefinitely by his team after being charged with misdemeanour battery.
A female student is said to have been left with a black eye and cut on her nose after Johnson allegedly punched her once she confronted him in a bar in Tallahassee on June 24.
Johnson's lawyer Jose Baez told TMZ: "While it is clear from the video [footage] that De'Andre Johnson was not the initial aggressor, his family wants to take the lead in helping him learn and grow from this experience.
"He is currently participating in community service, and faith-based programs focused on battered women, substance abuse, and the empowerment of children.
"De'Andre is extremely embarrassed by this situation and would like to express his heartfelt apologies to everyone, including those who were directly affected, Coach Fisher and his teammates, the entire Florida State University community, as well as his family and friends."
Johnson was released on bail last Thursday.
