Former Ipswich Town and Everton striker Marcus Bent is charged with affray and possession of a Class A drug.

Former Premier League striker Marcus Bent has reportedly been charged by police with affray and possession of a Class A drug in a raid which is alleged to have required the use of a Taser after officers were threatened with weapons.

Surrey Police confirmed that Bent had been put on bail and that the 37-year-old is due to appear at North Surrey Magistrates Court in Staines on Wednesday, September 30.

A police statement said: "A 37-year-old man has been charged with affray and the possession of a Class A drug following an incident in Esher on Sunday.

"Police attended a residential property at around 9.30pm. Officers were threatened with weapons when at the location and a Taser was deployed."

Bent, who has played for more Premier League clubs than any other player after spells at eight top-flight teams, retired in 2012 after a brief spell in Indonesia with Mitra Kukar.

He finished his career with 113 goals from 574 matches, mainly scored for Sheffield United and Ipswich Town, although he also started 31 games as Everton finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League in 2004-05 under David Moyes.
