Former Liverpool midfielder Brian Hall dies, aged 68.

Former Liverpool midfielder Brian Hall has passed away at the age of 68 following a battle with leukaemia.

Hall succumbed to the disease on Thursday, having been diagnosed several years ago.

The Glasgow-born Scot represented the Reds between 1969 and 1976 and clocked up 224 appearances, netting 21 goals in the process.

He returned to Anfield in 1991 to lead the club's public relations department, but left in 2011 due to health reasons.

John Aldridge, chairman of the Liverpool Former Players Association, told the Liverpool Echo: "Brian Hall passed away today, it's very sad news for all Liverpool fans.

"What a gentleman and a lovely man. Our thoughts are with his family. You'll never walk alone Brian."

Another former Red in Dietmar Hamann also paid tribute, writing on Twitter: "Very sad to hear that Brian Hall passed away. A gentleman and a big part of the LFC family. He won't be forgotten."

Hall also played for Plymouth Argyle and Burnley, before retiring with the latter in 1980.
