Lord Sebastian Coe insists that he is committed to building on the success of London 2012 in his new role as Chairman of the British Olympic Association.

Lord Sebastian Coe has revealed that he is flattered to be chosen as the new head of the British Olympic Association.

Coe was selected unopposed following his work as chair of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.

The 55-year-old has insisted that he takes great pride in the new role and believes that the BOA has a vital job to do over the next four years.

He said: "Following the tremendous impact of the London 2012 Games, the BOA has an important role to play in ensuring the growth of the Olympic Movement throughout the UK.

"I believe the BOA is uniquely positioned to work collaboratively with partners across government and sport to ensure there is a meaningful legacy resulting from the London 2012 Games.

"I am committed to making sure the benefits of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games are maximised and this role gives me an excellent platform to continue to serve and promote British Olympic sport, both in the UK, and globally."

Coe replaces Lord Colin Moynihan, who stood down this summer after seven years as chair of the BOA.
