Preston North End's Scott Laird has revealed that he received one pound from his grandmother after scoring against Manchester United in the FA Cup.
The 26-year-old got on the scoresheet at Deepdale, but ended up on the losing side as United secured a 3-1 victory in the fifth round of the cup competition.
As part of family tradition, from a young age Laird has received one pound from his grandmother any time he has scored a goal.
"She was the first person I rang and I said 'I want that pound,'" the Daily Star quotes Laird as saying. "I tried saying I wanted a bit more because it was against Manchester United, but she says that wasn't in the contract."
Laird has been a Preston player since 2012.
