Greater Manchester Police have revealed that "a man in his 20s" has been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following "online social media images and videos posted by a woman".
In a series of social media posts, including images and voice notes, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been accused of domestic violence by his girlfriend.
The 20-time English champions have since suspended the 20-year-old, who will not take part in training or feature in matches "until further notice".
Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that they have made an arrest, with the man "in his 20s" placed in custody on suspicion of rape and assault.
"Greater Manchester Police was made aware earlier today (Sunday 30 January) of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence," read the statement.
"An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault."
The England international has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 appearances for Man United, including six goals and two assists in 24 outings in all competitions this term.
