British car dealer Tom Hartley Junior sells a McLaren Formula 1 car for £3.5m.

A British dealer has sold a McLaren Formula 1 car for £3.5m, making the motor the most expensive in history.

Dealer Tom Hartley Junior decided to put his rare McLaren car on the market and managed to receive a hefty cheque.

"I think the McLaren F1 is the best car ever built," said Hartley. "It was light years ahead of its rivals and the model that I have sold is undoubtedly one of the best of the road-going F1s ever built."

The car in question would have been built between 1993 and 1998.
