Missouri Tigers defensive end Michael Sam received a standing ovation when he appeared on the big screen during a college basketball game on Saturday.
Sam made national headlines last week when he publicly came out, raising the possibility that he will become the first openly gay player in NFL history if he is chosen in May's Draft.
The 24-year-old was making his first public appearance since the announcement, and fans in attendance of Missouri's match against Tennessee made no secret of their support.
Sam was at the match with his Mizzou teammates, who were all honoured at half time due to their success in the AT&T Cotton Bowl.
Sam played a key role in their success last season, leading the SEC in sacks and tackles for a loss on his way to being named SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
He has been projected as a mid-round Draft pick in May and will take part in a scouting combine later this month.
