Rangers' Union of Fans have demanded that the club's board clarify comments made by a director regarding the sale of the naming rights for Ibrox.
Club director Sandy Easdale revealed that former chief executive Charles Green sold the naming rights for the stadium to Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, leaving open the possibility that the ground's name could be changed to the Sports Direct Arena.
The union said in a statement: "The Union of Fans are extremely concerned at newspaper reports suggesting that the naming rights to Ibrox have been sold to Mike Ashley for £1.
"We would ask the board to clarify as a matter of urgency whether the naming rights have indeed been sold and if so whether they have been sold for £1.
"The board cannot allow this type of accusation to go unanswered on a very important topic to fans."
Ashley, who is a Rangers shareholder, previously changed the name of Newcastle United's St James's Park, only to switch it back following protests from the club's fans.
